New 14++ Ventless Gas Fireplace Smell. We've had a ventless propane gas log fireplace for several years with no problems but this winter ive noticed that burning eye,headache kind of oder. When you turn the heater on the gas comes on and it is ignited by the pilot contributor. I don't think it is anything to worry about, but sometimes the smell can be a nuisance. With vented fireplaces, the flames can run through, around, and over the logs, creating a more chaotic and realistic appearance.
